I am working on me and my family this year on making better habits. Last year, we incorporated “Family Time” where we all get together and watch a movie or play together, just something being together as a family. My kids love it. In fact, they as for Family time and if anything comes close to resembling that it could be used to spend time with the family the kid will make note of it.
It’s great to spend time as a family doing fun things, but I want us to do things as a family when it comes to no so fun stuff like cleaning and chores. So here is my first mission: dinner time.
Around dinner time, I am usually cooking, setting up and cleaning up (well not always depending on the night).
What are we doing differently?
- Helping setup. I usually bring out the plates, utensils and cups setup the table. Now, I just serve the food. The kids and hubby do everything else.
- Wait until everyone is done. Usually, everyone leaves when they are done. Now, we wait and talk and spend extra family time together. We get a chance to ask questions that I would not normally ask because I am busy doing or thinking.
- Clean up together. That means putting up the dishes (clean sink yay!), sweeping, putting up leftovers. Everyone is assigned a task or tasks until the kitchen is cleaned up.
Teamwork makes the dream work right? We have done this for a few weeks (even this week where I was not feeling well.) My plan is to make this a permanent lifestyle change for us and this habit will be an example for us to do better an grow to become a better family. Then, we will move to another mission of creating better family habits.
Does your family thrive with your family habits? What habits are you working on?
