I walked into a Barnes and Nobles this weekend. Walking in I saw the coloring books by the entrance and down the aisle as I was trying to get to the children’s section. The adult coloring book is the new crazy and I am wondering do I need a coloring book?
I did not pick up one right away as I was on a mission and on a killing some time before I headed to an appointment for the evening. Today, I headed to another store and there again I see in the section of magazines and books—the adult coloring books. My daughter also caught eye of them too and started picking one up and looking through it. I decided to take a look as well to see the hype. There were several kinds of coloring book. The bases of these coloring books being therapy and a stress reliever finding one that speaks to your passion or what makes you happy. There were coloring books that were a journal, coloring books about flowers and gardening, coloring books with just various patterns, coloring books with animals and coloring books with scripture readings.
My daughter liked them all so her passion is coloring in general. She asked for one and I honestly did not feel like buying her another coloring book, even though this was something different than what she had. I thought the coloring books where beautiful but I am not a really super creative person in the coloring sense. Then the wheels started turning. My daughter is a very creative person. The things my kids create is very inspiring and surprising they are able to create things with a little or a lot. Unfortunately, I did not have that imagination they have but I definitely encourage theirs. I thought these coloring books weren’t really my cup of tea then I had an idea. These adult coloring books would be a great way for me to spend time with my daughter. I could a part of her creativity, encourage her creativity and entertain the little I have left as an adult. I bought a coloring book (plus coloring pencils) for me and my daughter because I wanted to bond more with her doing something I think we both would enjoy.
So, we have started 20 minutes a day coloring together and so far so good.
Do you have a coloring book? Would color with your kids if you have a coloring book to do together?
